The Greater Khingan Mountains is China's northernmost border region with the highest latitude, with a total forest area of 83,500 square kilometers and a border line of 786 kilometers, with a forest area of 7.11 million hectares, which is 3.4% of the national level and 33% of that of Heilongjiang Province. The total stock volume of living wood is 624 million cubic meters, which is 3.8% of the national level and 29% of Heilongjiang Province. The forest coverage rate is 84.89%. Since the implementation of the natural protection project, the forest area in the Greater Khingan Mountains has increased by 630,000 hectares, the total stock of living trees has increased by 111 million cubic meters, and the forest coverage rate has increased by 7.6 percentage points. The forestry group has a business area of 79,800 square kilometers, accounting for 95.57% of the total forest area. Under the jurisdiction of the forestry bureau, protection areas, national nature reserves, directly affiliated enterprises, fire fighting teams, aviation stations and other various types of 83 institutions. It has 133,000 employees, of which 53,000 are in service and 80,000 are retired. In 1964, the CPC Central Committee and the State Council developed the Daxing 'anling forest area by means of battle, and implemented the management system of integrating government and enterprise. In March 2015, the reform of state-owned forest areas was launched. In April 2020, Daxinganling Forestry Group Company was formally established, ending the 33 years' history of co-operating with the local government. It is the organization directly under the State Forestry and Grassland Administration with the largest volume and the largest number of employees, and shoulders the three responsibilities of maintaining national ecological security, food security and national defense security.
