Yu Tianfang, originally named Yu Jiugong, was from Hulan, Heilongjiang. In 1931, he joined the Communist Party of China while studying at Tsinghua University in Peking. In March 1933, the Manchuria Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, in accordance with the spirit of instructions of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China on the establishment of an anti-Japanese national united front, in order to strengthen the work of anti-Japanese and national salvation in the provincial capital of Qiqihar, decided to send a more familiar Communist Party member in Qiqihar to Yu Tianfang to form Lead Longjiang Special Branch. This is also the first party branch established in our northeastern region. Yu Tianfang served as secretary. After accepting the task, Yu Tianfang, with the help of Song Binglin, who was the inspector of the Education Department of the Puppet Province at the time, came to Shengli Normal School as an English teacher, under the cover of an English teacher, to carry out patriotic propaganda.
