Deer antler (cartialgenous) [1] refers to the unossified and hairy young horns of the stag of sika deer or red deer. It is a precious Chinese medicinal material. Deer antler contains phospholipids, glycolipids, gum lipids, hormones, fatty acids, amino acids, proteins and calcium, phosphorus, magnesium, sodium and other components, of which amino acids account for more than half of the total components. Ancient physicians believed that the essence of deer lies in the horns, and the antler is the sprout of the horns, and the gas is all but not vented, so the power of nourishing yang and nourishing blood is the most powerful. In Ming Dynasty Li Shizhen stated in the Compendium of Materia Medica that deer antler was "good at nourishing the kidney and yang, producing essence and blood, and replenishing marrow and bones."
